Volvo Trucks, Putzmeister and Swerock Launch One of the World’s Largest All-Electric Concrete Pumps

April 2025

A groundbreaking innovation is making waves at Bauma, the world’s largest trade fair for construction equipment, held this week in Germany. Swerock, in collaboration with Volvo Trucks and Putzmeister, has unveiled one of the world’s largest battery-electric concrete pumps—completely emission-free and designed for a cleaner future in construction.

The electric concrete pump, developed specifically for Swerock, boasts a 42-meter range and is capable of driving up to 50 kilometers and pumping around 50 cubic meters of concrete on a single charge. For larger jobs or longer distances, charging can continue during operation via a CCS2-compatible AC or DC charging solution installed on site. The pump is both quiet and free of exhaust fumes, improving the working environment for operators while also reducing environmental impact.

This latest innovation is built on a Volvo FM Electric 8x4 Rigid Tag Tridem chassis and integrates Putzmeister’s high-performance pumping technology. The truck features:

  • Two electric motors with a continuous output of 330 kW
  • Volvo's I-Shift gearbox
  • A specially developed battery system with four batteries totaling 360 kWh (250 kWh usable)
  • Charging capabilities of up to 43 kW AC and 250 kW DC
  • A total vehicle weight of 32 tonnes

The collaboration marks a significant milestone in the electrification of the construction and civil engineering sector. Volvo Trucks and Swerock have been partners since 2015, progressively developing semi-electric and fully electric concrete vehicles, including rotators and hybrid pumps. This latest development—an all-electric pump—takes their joint efforts to the next level.

“This is a major environmental investment for the future, for our children and grandchildren,” says Angelika Bohlin, Managing Director of Swerock in Sweden. “It’s also a clear win for our employees, who now benefit from a quieter and cleaner work environment.”

As a key player in the Nordic market, Swerock is committed to becoming climate neutral by 2045. With this new solution, the company now offers a zero-exhaust concrete delivery process—from transport to mixing and pumping. Traditional diesel-powered pumps are now being replaced with this forward-looking alternative, cutting both emissions and noise on construction sites.

“Being able to offer a completely electric solution is a proud moment for us,” Bohlin adds. “We’re not just talking about sustainability—we’re delivering it.”

Swerock is part of the Peab Group and has positioned itself as a driving force behind green innovation in the construction sector. Their new electric concrete pump will be on display at the Putzmeister stand (Hall B6) throughout the Bauma fair from April 7–13. Meanwhile, Volvo Trucks will host a press conference at their own stand in Hall C6 on April 8 at 10 a.m.

This development signals a bold step toward a low-emissions future for the construction industry—and these three companies are leading the charge.
