Bobcat and Doosan Robotics Merger to Propel Growth in Robotics Industry

August 2024

Bobcat is advancing its automation strategy through a merger with Doosan Robotics, a move facilitated by a restructuring of its parent organization, Doosan Group. This merger is designed to leverage the expanding robotics industry and the trend toward increased automation.

On July 11, Doosan Group announced that Doosan Bobcat, which has experienced consistent growth through strategic expansion, will now enter the high-growth robotics sector. The goal is to seize new growth opportunities and accelerate innovation within its traditional product lines.

Shareholders were notified that Doosan Bobcat will be spun off from Doosan Enerbility, a division focused on clean energy. As part of the merger, Doosan Robotics will acquire Bobcat’s shares through a stock swap. Pending shareholder approval on September 25, Bobcat is expected to become a wholly owned subsidiary of Doosan Robotics by the end of the year.

The restructuring of Doosan Group, headquartered in South Korea, will create three primary pillars: "Smart Machine," "Clean Energy," and "Advanced Materials." Bobcat will fall under the "Smart Machine" pillar, concentrating on autonomous construction and industrial vehicles. The newly formed Doosan Robotics will represent approximately 42% of the conglomerate.

This reorganization will allow the new Robotics entity to expand in key markets such as North America and Europe, utilizing Bobcat's dealer network and financing capabilities. Furthermore, Bobcat’s facilities will be employed for the testing and development of robotic products and services.

Bobcat has been a significant revenue driver for the group, providing financial resources for future mergers and acquisitions in areas including autonomous machines, machine vision, and system integration.
