Trimble Unveils AI Innovations to Boost Efficiency and Automation in Construction

November 2024

At its annual Trimble Dimensions conference, Trimble provided customers an in-depth look at the company’s latest AI-driven advancements aimed at streamlining construction workflows. Highlighting real-world applications, Trimble showcased how artificial intelligence is being integrated across its suite of connected construction solutions to enhance automation, improve decision-making, and boost productivity.

One of the highlights presented was Trimble LiveCount, which utilizes AI capabilities to scan and count thousands of symbols on construction drawings, significantly reducing the time and manual labor required for takeoffs. Trimble says this feature saves contractors from hours of repetitive work, enhancing both efficiency and accuracy.

Also demonstrated was ProjectSight, Trimble's project management software designed for contractors, which now includes a new AI-driven functionality. This feature enables automated extraction of critical data from imported drawings, which provides an improved project visualization and enhances workflow efficiency.

In addition, Trimble is bringing AI to the field for reality capture data processing. By incorporating AI in Trimble Business Center, a field-to-finish survey CAD software, the company automates tedious tasks such as point cloud segmentation, classification, and feature extraction. This technology is designed to support better decision-making by streamlining repetitive activities and expediting classification tasks, according to the company.

As part of the SketchUp Labs Program, Trimble introduced SketchUp Diffusion at Dimensions, a generative AI-powered tool that assists architects and designers in visualizing their ideas. This tool generates creative renderings based on text prompts or specific styles, helping designers bring concepts to life more efficiently and align their visions with stakeholders.

Aviad Almagor, Trimble’s VP of technology and innovation, spoke about the company’s AI focus:
“Our goal is to help customers do more with less, tackle key industry challenges, and thrive in an increasingly complex industry. By incorporating AI into customer workflows, we’re enhancing decision-making and creativity, while also automating repetitive tasks to unlock new levels of efficiency.”

Trimble’s AI-powered tools and solutions reflect its commitment to creating safer, more cost-effective, and efficient construction projects, supporting industry professionals as they navigate evolving challenges.
