Terra Cabins: Ja Hatta Fort’s Contemporary Approach To Sustainability

February 2023

Set among the rugged mountains of eastern United Arab Emirates, JA Hatta Fort Hotel has announced its latest addition – Terra Cabins – which is set to open on March 1. Designed with practicality and sustainability in mind, the newly launched cabins will enable guests to reconnect with nature and explore Hatta’s inherent beauty.

With striking exteriors and cozy interiors, Terra Cabins have been uniquely built to provide a hotel-like experience in a low-impact, environmentally friendly fashion. Using a combination of natural pine wood treated with a dusk grey wash, the façades of the cabins have been carefully created to blend in with the surrounding Al Hajar mountains.

Terra Cabins were constructed using a 3D modular build, offering a sustainable, cost-effective, and highly customisable alternative to traditional building methods. This modular build has proven to reduce construction timelines by 50 percent and costs by 20 percent, while maximising productivity benefits. Using this approach, JA Hatta Fort Hotel has seen notable progress toward reducing its costs, labour hours, logistics, material transportation, and carbon footprint.

This alternative accommodation experience boasts sustainable solutions, with the roofs specifically slanted to cater for future installation of solar panels. The cabins’ infrastructure also allows for the regulation of air conditioning temperature control, while an insulation layer underneath the roof helps to maintain the indoor climate. Boasting a practical ‘Plug & Play’ concept, Terra Cabins were built using carefully selected materials with increased durability, life cycle, and sustainability. Reusable materials, including steel and timber, were also intentionally chosen for their renewable and recyclable qualities.

Commenting on this launch, Deborah Thomson, General Manager at JA Hatta Fort Hotel, said: “As we look at opportunities for growth, we equally weigh in the project’s impact on sustainability, which is why the Terra Cabins at JA Hatta Fort Hotel were completed with a minimal carbon footprint and a sustainable future in mind. We are extremely proud of our momentum and continued commitment to follow an environmental movement that strongly aligns with the United Arab Emirates’ vision for 2023, ‘The Year Of Sustainability’, as announced by His Highness, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai and Prime Minister of the UAE. Our expansion in the hotel also aligns with His Highness’ strong belief and support for the continued development and growth of the Hatta region, the Highlands of Dubai. JA Resorts and Hotels are fully committed with our JA Hatta Fort Hotel to continue to be a leading destination for visitors to this vibrant location.”

While Terra Cabins deliver on the environmental front, it also promises guest satisfaction. The airy cabins welcome natural daylight, with windows that give way to scenic views. Additional cabin amenities include a mini-bar, walk-in rain shower, multimedia projectors available on request, wardrobe, and alcove seating area.

Visitors can choose between the regular Terra Cabin, which accommodates up to four guests and includes a bunk bed and double bed, and the Deluxe Terra Cabin, which accommodates up to six guests and includes two bunk beds, a double pull-out bed, and dedicated patio area.

While guests staying at Terra Cabins enjoy seclusion and privacy, they can access all facilities at JA Hatta Fort Hotel, including 24-hour in-room dining services, specialty restaurants, and all leisure and recreational activities available at the resort.
