Construction company Cobar has signed an expression of interest agreement with Heidelberg Materials Italia to utilize its EvoZero net-zero carbon captured cement product. The agreement was formalized by Cobar’s CEO, Vito Matteo Barozzi, and Heidelberg Materials Italia’s CEO, Stefano Gallini.

Heidelberg Materials Italia, a subsidiary of Germany-based Heidelberg Materials, described Cobar as “one of its main customers.” The company emphasized that the deal highlights the progress low-carbon products are making in the construction market.

Heidelberg Materials launched its EvoZero cement product in late 2023. This was followed by the introduction of its EvoBuild low-carbon and circular products range in early 2024.

The EvoZero cement range will feature two versions tailored to customer locations. The EvoZero Carbon Captured Brevik will be produced at the Brevik cement plant in Norway, which houses a dedicated carbon capture unit.

Elsewhere in Europe, Heidelberg Materials will offer the EvoZero Carbon Captured, manufactured at local plants. These products will be sold with verifiable carbon credentials using mass-balancing and book-and-claim systems.
