Komatsu has officially introduced its latest development for the Australian quarrying market: the HD605-10 rigid dump truck. This new addition aims to enhance productivity and reduce operational costs on quarry sites.
The HD605-10 builds upon the foundation of its predecessor, the HD605-8, incorporating significant performance improvements. Central to its design is a new 610kW engine, which offers increased power and torque. This Stage V engine features three selectable modes—economy, economy light, and power—allowing operators to tailor performance to site conditions.
Nick Vrontas, Komatsu’s national business manager for quarries, highlighted the focus of the development team: “Our development teams have prioritised customer needs to deliver a machine that not only builds on the reliability of its predecessor but also introduces significant performance enhancements,” he stated. “Operator comfort was also not overlooked by our developers, with hill start assist, cruise control, and other new features, which make driving this truck a pleasure for any operator.”
In addition to the powerful engine, the HD605-10 includes a new high-efficiency cooling system and a lightweight body option, contributing to improved fuel efficiency and reduced operating costs. The truck features one of the smallest turning radii in its class, facilitating operation on narrower benches and switchbacks.
The HD605-10’s design also includes upgrades that enhance overall performance. These improvements translate to more than a five percent increase in power, expanded load capacity up to 64 tonnes with a 43m³ body, and enhanced frame durability. The truck supports a 10/10/20 overload policy and boasts improved fuel efficiency.
The machine is equipped to integrate with operator guidance systems such as Komatsu’s Smart Quarry Site. This fleet management solution is specifically designed for quarry environments, focusing on optimizing site management, production, machine health monitoring, proactive maintenance, and safety on large civil construction projects. “Smart Quarry Site is an innovative fleet management solution specifically tailored for quarry sites, and focuses on improving site management, optimising production, machine health monitoring, proactive maintenance and enhancing safety on quarry and large civil construction projects,” Vrontas explained. “It gives real-time overviews of machine movements and material handling, helping operators and quarry site managers make informed decisions swiftly and accurately.”
The launch of the HD605-10 reaffirms Komatsu’s dedication to advancing innovation, efficiency, and safety in the quarry sector, providing customers with a robust and sustainable solution for their heavy-duty operations.
