The mass timber subsidiary is set to assume control of operations at two factories situated in Oregon. Timberlab and American Laminators boast a shared business history, with the former having previously procured glulam for the construction of the new 95,000-square-foot Multnomah County East County Library in Portland, Oregon, sourced from the latter.
This strategic move also aligns with Timberlab's broader initiatives in the Pacific Northwest. In March, the company unveiled plans for establishing a cross-laminated timber manufacturing facility in Oregon’s Mid-Willamette Valley. Swinerton, as per a news release, will contribute to funding this endeavor. It is anticipated that the facility will boast an annual output of 100,000 cubic meters of finished CLT products.
Christopher Evans, President of Timberlab, remarked, “Following our announcement in March to build and operate a cross-laminated timber manufacturing facility in the Mid-Willamette Valley, acquiring American Laminators is another leap forward to advancing our capabilities and services in the mass timber industry.”
Swinerton has previously leveraged its subsidiary's mass timber technology for various projects, including the Oxbow development—a $98 million mixed-use multifamily project in Charlotte, North Carolina. Notably, 50% of the structure of Oxbow will feature exposed ceilings made of mass timber components.
Dave Anderson, President of Diversified Wood Resources, operating under the American Laminators brand name, stated, “By combining our strengths and expertise, we are well-positioned to expand in the mass timber market while continuing to provide superior service, quality, and craftsmanship.”
