French engineering and consultancy firm Systra has been awarded a significant consultancy mandate for the $2.5 billion UAE-Oman railway project, as announced by Hafeet Rail, the project's developer and operator. This major railway network will connect the UAE's national rail system with Sohar Port in Oman.
Under the terms of the agreement, Systra will provide engineering and project management consultancy services. The firm will be responsible for a range of tasks, including managing the project schedule, overseeing contractors' and suppliers' performance, and ensuring full compliance with safety, health, environmental, and security standards. Systra will also supervise the project’s execution, review engineering designs, and oversee the testing and commissioning phases leading up to the start of operations.
Earlier this year, in May, Hafeet Rail awarded civil works contracts to an Omani-Emirati alliance, led by Trojan Construction Group (NPC) and Galfar Engineering and Contracting. Siemens, in partnership with Hassan Allam Construction (HAC), secured the systems and integration contracts, bringing advanced technologies to the train systems.
This consultancy agreement marks a critical step in the development of the UAE-Oman railway, with Systra playing a central role in ensuring the project meets all technical and regulatory requirements.
