Molins has introduced Susterra, a new product range that consolidates the company's offerings with sustainable attributes. This launch highlights Molins' commitment to social development and enhancing people's quality of life through innovative construction solutions. The Susterra range represents a significant milestone for Molins, aiding the company in achieving its sustainability goals and enabling its value chain to do the same.
Susterra encompasses solutions that support the circular economy by providing materials with a second life, utilizing alternative fuels, and incorporating recycled materials in their manufacturing processes. The range prioritizes reducing CO2 emissions through energy efficiency and the use of renewable electricity. Additionally, it promotes safe working environments by minimizing the emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), thereby enhancing workplace health and safety.
The Susterra solutions include cements that reduce CO2 emissions by over 20% compared to CEM I type cements manufactured in 2020. It also includes concretes with more than 25% lower emissions compared to other cement-based products made with the same cement. Furthermore, the range offers mortars and pavements containing over 2.5% recycled raw materials, products and fuels made entirely from recycled sources such as rubber granules or steel aggregates, urban furniture with 8% recycled aggregates, and cement-based products certified with the EMICODE EC1 PLUS label for very low VOC emissions.
Carlos Martínez, Chief Strategy & Sustainability Officer of Molins, stated, “In a further step towards achieving our objectives, we are proud to present Susterra, the new range in Molins’ portfolio that groups and distinguishes solutions with sustainable attributes. These will not only help us meet the goals we have set as a company, but also enable our value chain to achieve their sustainability objectives.” Martínez emphasized the range's role in promoting a more sustainable sector: “By providing Susterra solutions, Molins helps reduce the carbon footprint of our clients. We will continue to work on improving and expanding the Susterra range, thereby contributing more and more to the decarbonisation and circularity of the entire sector.”
With Susterra, Molins embodies its commitment to circularity in industrial processes, using up to 55% of thermal energy from alternative sources to fossil fuels. This achievement is made possible through the energy recovery of solid recovered fuels (SRF) and end-of-life tires (ELT). Additionally, the focus on circularity allows for a reduced reliance on natural raw materials by incorporating materials from the recovery of construction and demolition waste, as well as steel aggregates and rubber granules, into the manufacturing processes.
In conjunction with the introduction of Susterra, Molins has announced a new corporate identity. The company is transitioning from its former commercial brands—Cementos Molins, Cementos Molins Industrial, Promsa, Propamsa, Precon, and Pretersa-Prenavisa—to a unified corporate identity. This change aims to consolidate Molins as a global leader in innovative and sustainable construction solutions. The new slogan, 'building the present, driving the future,' reflects Molins' dedication to sustainability and innovation.
Molins has also introduced six new business areas to streamline its operations: 'Cement,' 'Concrete and Aggregates,' 'Circular Economy,' 'Construction Solutions,' 'Prefabricated Solutions,' and 'Urban Landscape.' The updated visual identity was implemented across all Molins businesses in Spain on May 17.
